The Accelerating Resilient Infrastructure Initiative brings together OVER 20 partners and aims to HELP unlock $7.5 billion in financing for community-based energy projects.

Schneider Electric announced the Accelerating Resilient Infrastructure Initiative, a nationwide effort to more rapidly deploy resilient, community-based energy systems across the US. The initiative brings together over 20 participants, including Microsoft, Sunrock, Zurich, and AlphaStruxure, to help strengthen critical energy systems through more innovative solutions and financing. It is designed to help public and private sector organizations more rapidly scope, finance, and deploy resilient infrastructure, such as microgrids, while federal incentives remain available.

Collaborative Effort for Energy Resilience

The initiative launches at a crucial time, as US communities face aging infrastructure, extreme weather, rising energy demand, and evolving cyber threats. By acting now, organizations can take advantage of available funding mechanisms before key deadlines shift.

Participants include global technology provider Microsoft, infrastructure providers AlphaStruxure, AZZO, Celsius Energy, CDM Smith, EVerged, Mainspring Energy, Pisgah Energy, Sprocket Power, Sunrock Distributed Generation, Sustainability Partners, Unison Energy, Verdant Microgrid, and Viridi. Additional contributors include consulting firms Arcadis, Baringa, Viridi Edge, Zurich Resilience Solutions, electrical distributor Graybar, and the nonprofit Resilient Cities Network. Schneider Electric serves as the strategic integrator, connecting customers with project developers and providing new advanced energy technologies.

$7.5 Billion Financing Commitment

Project developers AlphaStruxure, AZZO, EVerged, Unison Energy, Verdant Microgrid, and Sunrock have identified $7.5 billion in capital to help finance energy resilience projects at municipal facilities, airports, campuses, hospitals, schools, seaports, and water-treatment plants.

Projects can be delivered through turnkey solutions, including Energy as a Service (EaaS) contracts that convert upfront capital costs into more predictable payments. For organizations preferring savings-backed funding, Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) allow improvements to be paid for over time using guaranteed energy savings.

Microgrid Solutions for Reliability and Cost Control

Resilience solutions can incorporate Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ Microgrid Flex system and Energy Control Center, along with solar, battery storage, fuel cells, or flexible-fuel generators. These localized systems can operate independently from the grid, providing more reliable power during outages and helping to control energy costs.

Schneider Electric’s network of EcoXpert™ partners will help to support the rollout nationwide. Notable examples of existing projects include:

  • Montgomery County, Maryland: AlphaStruxure microgrids power electric bus depots supporting the county’s 100% carbon emissions reduction goal.

  • Piscataway, New Jersey: A 2.9 MW solar and microgrid system across eight municipal buildings, with 28 EV charging stations and five days of backup power, projected to deliver $19 million in savings over 20 years.

  • Middle Tennessee Electric: A microgrid integrating solar, battery storage, and smart energy management for 750,000 residents across four counties.

  • Longview Independent School District, Texas: A 4.2 MW solar project projected to save $450,000 annually in utility costs and cut 9 million pounds of carbon emissions.

Preparing for the Future of Energy

With the US grid approaching a critical inflection point by 2028, where peak electricity supply may no longer meet peak demand, this initiative helps to ease grid stress by scaling distributed energy resources (DERs). These include solar, battery storage, geothermal heat pumps, and EV charging infrastructure. The initiative supports long-term sustainability goals while helping communities to improve reliability, manage costs, and reduce risk.
