thyssenkrupp and GlobalLogic announced a strategic alliance to support the deployment of Physical AI, autonomous robotics, and data intelligence capabilities across heavy industry operations.

thyssenkrupp AG and GlobalLogic Inc., a Hitachi Group Company, announced a strategic alliance to help support the deployment of autonomous robotics and Physical AI across heavy industry operations.

The alliance brings together thyssenkrupp’s industrial and operational expertise with capabilities from GlobalLogic, Method, a GlobalLogic company, and Hitachi America R&D. Together, the companies plan to create a “Lab-to-Scale” Physical AI pipeline for heavy industry, connecting research, digital strategy, design, software engineering, and industrial deployment.

The partnership is intended to help heavy industry companies move beyond digital experimentation and apply AI-enabled systems in real-world operations, including hazardous production environments, inspection workflows, and green energy project delivery.

Building a Lab-to-Scale Physical AI Pipeline

The planned pipeline combines:

  • Foundational research from Hitachi America R&D

  • Digital strategy and design from Method

  • Enterprise software engineering from GlobalLogic

  • Industrial and operational expertise from thyssenkrupp

The pipeline is intended to connect on-site operational data with AI-driven autonomous control systems. For thyssenkrupp, this approach is expected to help support the use of autonomous robotics, drones, and data-driven operational systems across its industrial sites.

The companies report that the model is designed to help reduce engineering bottlenecks, improve operational safety, and create a framework for scaling Physical AI in heavy industry.

Connecting OT and IT Data for Autonomous Operations

One major focus of the partnership is the creation of a data intelligence layer for thyssenkrupp based on GlobalLogic’s Unified Data Layer architecture.

The architecture is designed to create a common data and semantic foundation that links operational technology data from the field with IT data from business operations. This type of data foundation is important for autonomous systems that require real-time processing, contextual understanding, and AI-driven decision-making.

The companies plan to apply this infrastructure to autonomous robotics and drones, including “Robocams,” for high-risk inspections and precision measurements. These systems are intended to help support workers by reducing exposure to hazardous environments and providing better data for managing complex industrial processes.

Supporting Safety and Frontline Operations

Heavy industry environments often involve inspection and maintenance tasks in areas that can be difficult or unsafe for workers to access. By using autonomous robots, drones, and AI-enabled data systems, thyssenkrupp and GlobalLogic aim to help improve safety while maintaining operational visibility.

Rather than replacing industrial expertise, the partnership positions Physical AI as a way to augment frontline workers. The systems are expected to help teams:

  • Capture higher-quality operational data

  • Reduce manual work in hazardous areas

  • Support faster and more informed decision-making

  • Improve visibility into complex industrial processes

Accelerating Decarbonization Projects

The second major workstream focuses on accelerating engineering processes for green energy and decarbonization projects.

The companies plan to deploy an intelligence platform to capture and process offline and unstructured technical data. By translating complex documentation into actionable information, thyssenkrupp aims to help shorten quote-to-cash and technical engineering cycles for green energy projects.

This is intended to help reduce administrative and technical bottlenecks that can slow the execution of energy transition projects.

Applying Physical AI to Heavy Industry

The partnership reflects a broader shift in industrial transformation, where AI is moving from digital analysis into physical operations. In heavy industry, this means applying AI to systems that can sense, decide, and act in real-world environments.

For thyssenkrupp and GlobalLogic, the alliance focuses on practical use cases where Physical AI can support safety, autonomous operations, servitization, and decarbonization. If successfully scaled, the model could provide a template for applying advanced AI across complex industrial environments.
