At a recent meeting of the German-Chinese Commission for Standardization (DCKN) in Xiamen, China, representatives of VDE|DKE and their Chinese colleagues agreed on closer cooperation.  The meeting takes place once a year and is organized by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMWi) and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC).  Germany and China have agreed to cooperate even more closely in several areas.  In particular in digital transformation, such as machine-readable and machine-interpretable standards.

Joint Approach to Future Technologies

There should be closer cooperation on topics such as digital twins, artificial intelligence in industrial applications, IT security, functional security and predictive maintenance.  In addition, both sides support the initiation of German-Chinese industry 4.0 testbeds to promote an agile approach to standardization.

Focus on Safety of Innovations

Both parties have agreed to cooperate on ethical aspects in the standardization context of autonomous systems in order to jointly support the development of a direction for standardization.  The German-Chinese standardization organization, SAC, has also decided to strengthen cooperation in the field of battery system standardization with a focus on functional safety, system safety, certification and transport of batteries.  In the field of quantum technology, according to DCKN, cooperation is to be entered into to address the lack of standards and to ensure that innovations are driven forward at the international level.

International Consortium Paves the Way for Companies to the Digital Factory

Together with other organizations, including the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of CAST Member Societies (IMAC), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), VDE|DKE has founded the International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing (ICIM).  The aim of ICIM is to support communication and cooperation between industrial companies worldwide on their way to the digital factory.  For this purpose, the organizations have established an Academic Committee, which promotes the exchange between universities, research institutions and industrial companies in the field of Smart Factory.
