The U.S. has announced a partnership with the government of India, the India Semiconductor Mission, and the India Ministry of Electronics and IT to explore new opportunities and grow the global semiconductor ecosystem. Underscored by the International Technology Security and Innovation (ITSI) Fund, created from the CHIPS Act of 2022, this partnership seeks to usher in a resilient, secure, and sustainable global value chain for semiconductor manufacturing.
The first phase includes a comprehensive assessment of India’s semiconductor ecosystem and regulatory framework, workforce, and infrastructure requirements. Key Indian stakeholders, such as state governments, educational institutions, research centers, and private companies are among the stakeholders targeted by the India Semiconductor Mission. The assessment will serve as the basis for potential future joint initiatives to strengthen and grow the sector as its global importance increases.
The United States and India seek to ensure the global semiconductor supply chain keeps pace with the digital transformation initiatives currently underway around the globe. Manufacturing of essential products from vehicles to medical devices relies on the strength and resilience of the semiconductor supply chain, and the collaboration between the two nations emphasizes the potential to expand India’s semiconductor industry for the benefit of the USA and India.
