This year’s ARC Leadership Forum will be held in Orlando on February 10-13, 2025, in Orlando. Once again, the program will include several sessions and workshops addressing aspects of industrial cybersecurity.

On Tuesday (February 11) at 4:00 PM there will be a panel discussion on the subject of hardware and software product security (“Security by Design”) moderated by ARC Consultant Eric Cosman. Panelists from both suppliers and end users will share their insights, experiences, and perspectives on the best practices for securing OT systems, including both legacy components already installed and new components available for purchase and installation. This will include questions and discussion from the audience.

Several questions will be considered, including:

  • What is the status of hardware and software product security?

  • How effective are standards (e.g., ISA, IEC, or UL) in defining what is required?

  • Can CISA's Secure-by-Design efforts really make a major impact?

  • What is the role of regulations (e.g., the Cyber Resilience Act)?

  • What is the value of conformance testing and certification (e.g., ISAsecure, O-PAS)?

  • Are there implications arising from the use of artificial intelligence (AI)?

  • Are software bills of materials (SBOMs) of value to end users?

  • Is there a hardware analog to SBOM's?

  • What steps should end users and product suppliers be taking?

If you have thoughts on this subject, I would love to hear them. You can reach me here.
