The Linux Foundation has announced that the Open Infrastructure Foundation (OpenInfra) intends to join as a member foundation, following unanimous approval from both organizations’ boards. This move aims to enhance collaboration on open source cloud and AI infrastructure by integrating the global communities of OpenInfra and the Linux Foundation.

Both organizations have previously worked together through the Open Infrastructure Blueprint, supporting projects such as Linux, OpenStack, and Kubernetes. This collaboration has contributed to infrastructure modernization for organizations worldwide. By joining the Linux Foundation, OpenInfra will further advance data center transformation and expand its engagement with other open source projects, including PyTorch.

The demand for open source solutions continues to grow as AI, data center advancements, and geopolitical considerations reshape the technology landscape. Open source has played a key role in innovation, contributing significant economic value.

Following the transition, OpenInfra will continue operating within the Linux Foundation while maintaining its current governance structure, board positions, budget, and membership model. It will also uphold its commitment to open source principles through The Four Opens framework.
