Hitachi Energy signed a multi-year strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support the deployment of cloud-based solutions for utility and energy-intensive companies. The collaboration is aimed at helping these organizations to better manage growing grid complexity and accelerate their transition to more resilient energy systems.
The first outcome of this partnership is the launch of Hitachi Vegetation Manager on AWS. This AI-driven vegetation management system is designed to help reduce outages caused by vegetation interfering with power lines and other critical infrastructure. In the U.S., such incidents remain a major cause of power disruption and contribute to high maintenance costs, especially for power and rail operators.
Using a combination of artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and real-time weather data, Hitachi Vegetation Manager provides predictive insights that help to identify and address potential vegetation risks before they lead to service interruptions. The system supports efforts to help minimize downtime, enhance grid reliability, and optimize maintenance planning.
The software is now available through the AWS Marketplace. Hitachi Energy and AWS also plan to expand their collaboration to include additional asset and work management solutions. The partnership is expected to make it easier for operators to access scalable digital tools that support more informed, efficient decision-making in an increasingly complex energy landscape.
