Overview

Many industrial companies are adopting collaborative IT/OT cybersecurity to improve overall cybersecurity. Improving collaboration among security teams is the first step. Implementing more advanced IT security tools in OT is equally important as this will provide the foundation IT security teams need to support OT and the more advanced defensive capabilities companies need for today’s sophisticated attacks.

A panel discussion on Integration of IT and OT Cybersecurity Technologies was included in the cybersecurity program at the recent 2025 ARC Forum in Orlando. Users from leading industrial companies shared their views on the benefits and challenges of augmenting OT systems with more advanced IT security capabilities.

Attendees included owner-operators, security professionals, suppliers and other stakeholders in industrial cybersecurity. The session gave everyone a better understanding of how leading industrial companies are approaching IT/OT cybersecurity convergence. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in the discussion with their own perspectives and concerns.

All of the workshops and case study sessions at the 2025 ARC Forum received high ratings for content and relevance, and this session was no exception.

Session Highlights

ARC’s cybersecurity program is unique. Many cybersecurity events are focused on security practitioners and offer sessions with pundits debating the effectiveness of different technologies and suppliers describing new features in their security offerings. ARC’s cybersecurity program is targeted towards the people who are responsible for the safety and availability of industrial operations. These operational concerns drive cybersecurity investments and the people who control the budgets attend ARC cybersecurity sessions to understand their risks and what peers are doing to manage them.

The IT/OT Cyber Technology Convergence workshop reflected this focus with a panel of end users with decades of experience managing automation and cybersecurity for some of the world’s largest industrial operations. Their diverse backgrounds provided a wide range of perspectives and drove a very lively, informative discussion. Attendees clearly appreciated the ability to interact with people who shared their concerns and experiences.

Panelists in this session included:

  • Eric Devoy (Principal Architect, Security, BP)
  • Keith Dicharry (Director, Technical Expertise Automation, Process Control, & Electrical, BASF)
  • Mark Duck (Principal Technical Expert - Operational Technology Security, Shell)
  • Blake Gilson (Industrial Cybersecurity Expertise Manager, ExxonMobil)
