In a recent ARC Industrial AI podcast, Dr. Narayanan Ramanathan (NR), Chief Delivery Officer at L&T Technology Services (LTTS), joined ARC’s Leena Kanickaraj and Rajkumar Paira to share how AI is reshaping engineering R&D and manufacturing. According to NR, AI is no longer a support tool but a core enabler across the digital manufacturing value chain. LTTS has filed over 170 AI patents—many in generative AI—and built strong partnerships, including with NVIDIA, to develop scalable, edge-compliant solutions like digital twins, supplier evaluation models, and AI agents for simulation and energy optimization. Its AI Center of Excellence is helping turn industry challenges into intelligent, production-ready use cases.
He emphasized that industries such as automotive, semiconductors, and medtech are leading AI adoption, citing real-world gains like a 40 percent reduction in wafer inspection time. To overcome challenges with legacy systems, LTTS has developed AI-powered edge gateways and middleware to unlock value from brownfield assets—avoiding full-scale system replacements. Rather than focusing solely on ROI, LTTS evaluates the return on value (ROV), looking at operational impact, engineering efficiency, and strategic business outcomes. For LTTS, AI isn’t just a technology—it’s a transformational lever driving real change in how products are designed, tested, and delivered.
