As cities increasingly depend on interconnected digital systems—spanning emergency dispatch, healthcare, law enforcement, and utilities—the need for strong, adaptable, and transparent AI governance becomes critical. The Internet of Things Security Institute (IoTSI), an academic and cyber industry think tank offering security frameworks, educational resources, and cybersecurity courses to support Smart Tech and IIoT ecosystems, has released the Smart Cities Critical Infrastructure (SCCI) AI Framework to help address these challenges.
The framework is intended to offer a comprehensive, sector-agnostic approach to securing and optimizing the use of artificial intelligence across urban critical infrastructure. It addresses the distinct challenges of AI integration, including data privacy, operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and the mitigation of emerging cyber threats.
The IoT Security Institute’s objective is to provide smart cyber principles that can be applied from base build through to project completion. In addition, the Institute has developed a comprehensive set of artefacts to help each supply chain participant specify, procure, integrate, operate, and maintain IoT securely within Smart Technology Ecosystems. The IoTSI is also the authorized certification body for the SCCISP certification. The document can be downloaded here.
