GE Vernova has launched two key updates to its utility-scale FLEXINVERTER platform:

  • A new 1.5kV solution featuring more advanced silicon carbide (SiC) technology for battery energy storage systems (BESS).

  • The expansion of its 2kV FLEXINVERTER for photovoltaic (PV) plants to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) markets, following its initial rollout in the US.

The IEC markets include most of Europe, parts of Asia, Africa, and other regions that follow International Electrotechnical Commission standards for electrical equipment. These updates aim to help improve energy efficiency and enable broader adoption of more flexible, high-performance inverter technologies.

The new 1.5kV SiC FLEXINVERTER for BESS applications offers:

  • Higher electrical efficiency.

  • Increased power density.

  • A more compact, lighter-weight design.

  • Operation at higher voltages and temperatures, helping to reduce energy losses and cooling needs.

  • Lower levelized cost of storage (LCoS) and reduced EPC costs.

The expanded 2kV FLEXINVERTER for PV plants provides:

  • Reduced cable sizing.

  • Lower energy losses.

  • Greater system efficiency.

  • Compatibility with IEC markets outside North America.

Both inverter solutions are based on GE Vernova’s established FLEXINVERTER platform, developed at the company’s engineering center in Berlin, Germany. Manufacturing will take place at GE Vernova’s facilities in Chennai, India, which will continue to grow to support global supply chains, and Pittsburgh, PA, US, where a new manufacturing line is expected to create over 270 new jobs as part of a broader expansion plan.

These developments reflect the ongoing evolution of grid-scale power electronics and GE Vernova’s continued focus on helping to support decarbonization goals through smarter, more efficient infrastructure.
