Edge orchestration provider ZEDEDA and ServiceNow, provider of the Now Platform for enterprise workflows and cloud-based IT service management, announced the ServiceNow Edge Appliance—a fully managed on-premise solution that extends Now Platform capabilities to the edge. The combination of ServiceNow’s Operational Technology Management and ZEDEDA’s edge orchestration is designed to provide a unified platform for IT and OT (Operational Technology) infrastructure.

Because many industries have critical systems at the edge that can’t always depend on continuous cloud connectivity—or have strict data locality and security requirements—the ServiceNow Edge Appliance brings the Now Platform on-premises in a self-contained unit. The appliance is a plug-and-play, fully managed on-premises device designed to run ServiceNow applications, as well as third-party and custom applications and services, outside the cloud or data center—for example, on factory floors, oil rigs, retail stores, or other remote sites. Its management capabilities eliminate the need for users to handle tasks such as manual operating system updates, application deployment and scaling, or configuring complex networking.

With support for both Now Platform applications and other edge apps, the appliance can act as a unified edge computing hub. It also removes the need for dedicated IT, networking, and security infrastructure at each edge location. The appliance is hardened to meet the unique security challenges of edge computing—where a perimeter may be remote or even absent—through built-in security controls and a Zero Trust architecture inherited from ZEDEDA’s edge platform.
