Private 4G/LTE and 5G networks are transforming enterprise connectivity in 2025 as the technology has evolved from niche pilots to enterprise-ready infrastructure. This development has been driven by easier spectrum access, cloud-native architecture, and the rise of real-time edge applications. Adoption is spreading across manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and campus environments.

Private mobile networks (PMNs) are dedicated LTE or 5G networks designed for enterprises, industries, and government entities. Unlike public networks, PMNs provide enhanced security for sensitive data, ultra-low latency for real-time applications, and scalability for thousands of connected devices. These capabilities make PMNs essential for Industry 4.0, smart factories, autonomous systems, and critical infrastructure. As organizations accelerate digital transformation, the demand for secure, high-performance wireless networks is surging.

According to the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), enterprises across industries are adopting 4G LTE and 5G private networks to enable automation, IoT, and mission-critical operations. As of Q1 2025, over 1,700 organizations have deployed private LTE or 5G networks globally. About 80 countries now host private networks, led by the United States, Germany, the UK, France, China, and Japan. More regulators are expected to follow in 2025. Despite early-year economic uncertainty, multi-site rollouts and network expansions are accelerating, signaling strong long-term growth.

Adoptions

Manufacturing leads in terms of deployments, driven by smart factory initiatives. Education and research, along with mining, follow closely. Industries like oil & gas and mining still favor LTE, while hospitals and advanced manufacturing lean toward 5G for ultra-reliable connectivity. Within manufacturing, automotive leads, followed by electrical equipment and machinery manufacturing. PMN growth in automotive reflects the shift toward connected production lines. Other key sectors include defense, utilities, logistics, and seaports, all leveraging PMNs for automation, safety, and operational efficiency.

Spectrum and Regional Trends

Spectrum availability is a critical growth driver for PMNs. Countries like Germany, the US, UK, and Japan have allocated dedicated spectrum for private networks. CBRS dominates in the US, while C-band and mmWave are gaining traction globally. Shared and localized licensing frameworks (e.g., CBRS in the US) lower barriers to entry. Hybrid “neutral host” setups allow integration with public networks for coverage continuity.

Technology Trends

5G-Advanced (Release 18), commercialized in June 2024, enables enhanced slicing, positioning, energy efficiency, and AI/ML in RAN/core. It also supports industrial features and NTN (non-terrestrial networks) integration.

5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) was introduced to lower the cost of 5G devices and address uses including high-speed enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable low-latency communications, and low-throughput technologies. eRedCap, introduced in 3GPP Release 18 in 2024, further reduces the complexity and cost of 5G devices. Essentially, these technologies bridge the gap between different 5G capabilities. RedCap devices can use new 5G-specific spectrum bands, easing the load on existing 4G networks. eRedCap offers lower peak data rates of 10 Mbps compared with RedCap. Together, RedCap and eRedCap enable enterprises to deploy low-cost, energy-efficient IoT devices without needing full 5G capabilities. They support scalable private network deployments in sectors like manufacturing, logistics, utilities, and smart infrastructure.

According to ARC’s market analysis Private 4G/LTE and 5G Networks, despite inhibitors such as limited awareness, weak ROI justification, and lack of spectrum availability in some countries, the private mobile networks market is evolving from pilot projects to large-scale deployments. Growth is supported by pre-integrated solutions that simplify adoption and by regulatory support for localized spectrum. Global cloud providers (hyperscalers) have entered this market space, often partnering with operators and vendors. The market is shifting from single-site pilots to multi-site rollouts, signaling maturity and scalability.

Within manufacturing, the adoption of advanced analytics is becoming increasingly vital for improving operational efficiency, product quality, and innovation. Advanced analytics leverages sophisticated tools to extract deeper insights from complex data, enabling predictive decision-making. Combined with private 5G networks, advanced analytics is transforming manufacturing into a connected, data-driven ecosystem. As 5G matures and AI-driven automation expands, private mobile networks will become the backbone of smart industries and connected enterprises.
