New edge controller designed to accelerate on-site data utilization and digital transformation in manufacturing.
A Global Launch to Boost Data-Driven Manufacturing

OMRON Corporation announced it will launch its DX1 Data Flow Controller globally on September 30. DX1 is an edge controller designed to collect, analyze, and visualize operational data from sensors, controllers, and other factory automation devices—without requiring specialized programming or software.
With the growing importance of IoT and on-site data utilization, manufacturers are under pressure to improve productivity, enhance quality, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, challenges such as lack of standardized data-collection methods and shortage of digital talent have slowed progress.
OMRON developed the DX1 series to address these issues. Working in synergy with the company’s Sysmac Automation Platform, DX1 collects and visualizes device data and enables no-code device configuration, helping manufacturers jumpstart their digital transformation efforts.

DX1 Data Flow Controller
Designed for Usability and Connectivity
Intuitive Data Utilization
The DX1 is equipped with pre-configured packages and templates for key production indicators. Its flow editor provides a visual, at-a-glance interface that allows users to build data flows by simply connecting processing blocks on screen—making it possible for even non-specialists to start leveraging data quickly.
Seamless Connectivity
DX1 offers enhanced connectivity with PLCs from multiple Japanese manufacturers, making it retrofit-friendly for existing equipment. This interoperability allows users to connect a mix of devices and controllers, reducing lead time and upfront implementation costs.
Key Advantages of the DX1 Data Flow Controller
1. Quick and Easy Start for Anyone
With built-in data preparation and analysis middleware, DX1 allows users to start collecting data simply by connecting devices via Ethernet cables. There is no need to install specialized programs, and its interface provides a clear view of data flows, making it easy to configure collection, analysis, and data transfer visually.
2. Templates with Room for Customization
DX1 comes with ready-to-use templates for monitoring key indicators such as equipment status and factory performance. Data can be viewed in a tiered structure, from overall production targets down to individual equipment details. For advanced use cases, DX1 supports customization with Python™ and C for complex calculations or integration with third-party controllers.
3. Zero-Downtime Implementation
DX1 supports multiple PLC brands, allowing users to begin collecting data without halting production or replacing equipment. Retrofitting is seamless, and the IO-Link master enables easy interconnection of sensors and cameras, making it possible to retrieve data from diverse sources without disruption.
Looking Ahead
OMRON has long been a leader in productivity solutions for manufacturing sites worldwide. With the launch of the DX1 Data Flow Controller, it aims to remove barriers to data utilization, helping manufacturers transition smoothly to IoT-driven, sustainable operations. This product launch reinforces OMRON’s vision of enabling future societies where industrial development, human prosperity, and environmental sustainability can thrive together.
