Leading network infrastructure provider Cisco announced Cisco Unified Edge, an integrated computing platform for distributed AI workloads. Cisco Unified Edge brings together compute, networking, storage, and security closer to the data for real-time AI inferencing and agentic workloads. This is critical to turning the AI vision into reality by providing the foundational infrastructure needed to support both traditional and AI workloads.
More than half of today's AI pilots are stalling due to infrastructure constraints, highlighting an urgent need for a new decentralized network architecture. As AI workloads fast-track from centralized model training to real-time inference, traditional data centers struggle to accommodate their requirements. AI agents are transforming network traffic from predictable bursts to relentless, high-intensity loads, with agentic AI queries generating up to 25 times more network traffic than a chatbot. Instead of pulling data to and from the data center, AI workloads require models and infrastructure to be closer to where the data is created and decisions are made.
Reimagining Computing for Agentic AI
Cisco Unified Edge enables real-time inferencing and agentic workloads from edge to core—allowing enterprises to confidently deploy and manage AI at scale. It is designed to grow and adapt without the need for rip-and-replace upgrades, protecting AI investments and powering use cases and services that have yet to be imagined.
Performance and Modularity to Power Real-time AI: A full-stack, converged architecture unifies compute, storage, and networking into a single platform, supported by an extensive partner ecosystem. The modular chassis offers CPU and GPU configurations, redundant power and cooling, high-performance SD-WAN networks, and pre-validated designs to support both current applications and those yet to be imagined.
Operational Simplicity from Edge to Core: Zero-touch deployment and pre-validated blueprints deliver accelerated and predictable AI rollouts. Centralized management via Cisco Intersight and automated fleetwide operations simplify scaling, troubleshooting, and upgrades without needing on-site specialist skills. With Splunk and ThousandEyes integrations, customers can gain end-to-end observability and democratized edge management at scale.
Built-in Security for Edge AI: Multi-layered, zero-trust security protects AI environments at every layer. Tamper-proof features, deep telemetry, consistent policies, and drift-free configurations ensure resilience, while audit trails safeguard compliance as operations scale. Security is built-in at the device level and extends zero trust to every access point, segmentation, and application, protecting AI models from physical and cyber threats.
Security Fused into the Network
Cisco Secure Access extends Zero Trust to the cloud, providing consistent protection for users and applications everywhere. All Cisco SD-WAN offerings, including Meraki, now integrate with Cisco Secure Access, enabling a complete Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution. This delivers secure, seamless access for hybrid workforces by applying unified identity-based policies across SaaS, internet, and private apps—eliminating policy gaps between on-prem and cloud environments.
The Cisco Access Manager fuses identity into the network, delivering full identity-based access control natively through the Meraki Dashboard. Fueled by Cisco ISE, optimized for cloud-managed networks, and delivered as SaaS, Access Manager is designed for simple deployment with no hardware or complex setup. It enables adaptive segmentation to isolate users, devices, and IoT by identity and posture, ensuring every branch connection is authenticated, segmented, and secure.
