The new CDU is designed to scale beyond 10 megawatts for next-generation AI, HPC, and accelerated computing workloads.

Motivair by Schneider Electric has introduced a new 2.5-megawatt coolant distribution unit (CDU) intended to help support liquid cooling requirements for high-density data centers operating at scale. The MCDU-70 is the highest-capacity CDU in Motivair’s portfolio and is designed to help address the cooling demands associated with next-generation GPUs and large-scale AI computing facilities.

The MCDU-70 operates as part of a centralized cooling system using Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure software, enabling coordinated control and monitoring across multiple units. This architecture supports current cooling requirements while providing a pathway to scale beyond 10 megawatts for high-performance computing, AI, and accelerated workloads.

Key System Characteristics

  • 2.5 megawatt cooling capacity per unit, supporting high-density liquid-cooled environments.

  • Scalable architecture, enabling deployments beyond 10 megawatts using multiple CDU units.

  • Centralized operation via EcoStruxure software, supporting coordinated monitoring and control.

  • Compact design, preserving full flow performance and facility pressure at large scale.

  • Parallel deployment support, enabling redundancy configurations such as 4+2 for large facilities.

Designed for Large-Scale AI and HPC Environments

The MCDU-70 is designed to help align with the requirements of large-scale AI data center designs, including reference architectures such as those associated with NVIDIA Omniverse DSX Blueprint, where individual deployments may target 10 megawatts to support broader gigawatt-scale facilities. At 2.5 megawatts per unit, multiple systems can be deployed to help support scalable and resilient cooling designs aligned with evolving GPU roadmaps.

Expanding Liquid Cooling Portfolio

With the addition of the MCDU-70, Schneider Electric’s liquid cooling portfolio now spans CDU capacities from 105 kilowatts to 2.5 megawatts. The systems are designed to integrate with one another and with Schneider Electric software platforms to deliver coordinated, high-capacity cooling for data center operators as AI and accelerated computing workloads continue to increase rack density and power demand.
