Autodesk has completed its acquisition of MaintainX, adding mobile-first computerized maintenance management system capabilities to Autodesk Operations Solutions and extending its strategy to connect design, manufacturing, construction, and operations data across the asset lifecycle.

Autodesk has completed its acquisition of MaintainX, following the agreement announced in May 2026. MaintainX provides a mobile-first computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and enterprise asset management platform used to manage maintenance activity, work orders, inspections, asset information, and operational workflows.

The acquisition strengthens Autodesk Operations Solutions (AOS), which brings together Autodesk Tandem, FlexSim, Fusion Operations, and Factory Design Utilities under a broader operations strategy. Autodesk is positioning AOS as an extension of its existing design and manufacturing portfolio, with the goal of connecting information generated during design and production with data created during the operating life of an asset.

Extending Autodesk from Design and Make into Operations

Autodesk has traditionally focused on software supporting design, engineering, construction, and manufacturing. Its expansion into operations reflects the growing importance of maintaining continuity between engineering data and the information generated after an asset enters service.

Operational environments create data through work orders, inspections, maintenance histories, asset condition records, and equipment performance. Connecting this information with engineering and design data can provide organizations with a more complete view of how assets perform throughout their lifecycle.

MaintainX expands Autodesk’s capabilities in this area by adding maintenance and asset management workflows used directly by frontline operations teams. The platform supports preventive and predictive maintenance, work orders, inspections, asset management, parts inventory, reporting, and equipment reliability analysis.

MaintainX Adds Maintenance and Asset Data to Autodesk Operations Solutions

MaintainX provides Autodesk with access to an additional layer of operational information, including asset histories, inspections, maintenance patterns, and real-world equipment performance.

This data can complement the engineering and lifecycle information already managed through Autodesk products. Autodesk Tandem, for example, supports digital twin workflows, while Fusion Operations addresses manufacturing operations and FlexSim provides simulation capabilities.

Autodesk’s strategy is to connect these technologies through AOS so information can flow more consistently across design, make, and operate workflows.

ARC Advisory Group previously noted that the planned MaintainX acquisition would extend Autodesk’s engagement with assets beyond their design and construction phases and further into maintenance and operational performance.

Supporting a More Continuous Asset Lifecycle

One of the broader opportunities created by the acquisition is closer integration between digital twins and maintenance management.

Autodesk Tandem already supports integrations with CMMS platforms, including MaintainX, allowing asset and location information as well as work-order data to move between systems. The integration provides a foundation for linking digital representations of assets with operational maintenance activity.

Over time, connecting engineering and digital twin information with maintenance data could help organizations better understand relationships between original design intent, operating conditions, maintenance history, and actual asset performance.

This approach reflects a broader industry shift toward lifecycle information models in which engineering, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance data are increasingly connected rather than managed as separate information environments.

Operational Data Creates Additional Context for AI

The acquisition also has implications for Autodesk’s AI strategy.

AI systems operating across engineering and industrial workflows depend heavily on access to contextual data. Design and engineering information can describe how an asset was intended to operate, while maintenance records and operational data provide information about how it performs in actual conditions.

MaintainX already incorporates AI capabilities for areas such as equipment troubleshooting, natural-language analysis, maintenance recommendations, anomaly detection, and work-order information.

Bringing this operational information together with Autodesk’s engineering, manufacturing, and digital twin data could provide a richer information foundation for AI-assisted analysis and automation across asset lifecycles. Autodesk identified access to maintenance and real-world performance data as one of the strategic benefits of the acquisition when the agreement was announced.

Acquisition Moves Autodesk Operations Strategy Forward

When Autodesk announced the acquisition in May, it valued the all-cash transaction at approximately $3.6 billion. MaintainX was expected to generate more than $135 million in annualized recurring revenue during calendar year 2026, with growth exceeding 50 percent.

With the transaction now completed, the focus shifts toward integrating MaintainX with Autodesk’s broader operations portfolio.

The acquisition represents a significant expansion of Autodesk’s involvement in the operational phase of the asset lifecycle. By combining maintenance and asset management workflows with digital twins, manufacturing operations, simulation, and engineering information, Autodesk is building toward a more continuous connection between how assets are designed, produced, operated, and maintained.
