At ARC's European Industry Forum 2016, Bernard Flament, Energy Optimization Manager at Prayon will provide an insight into a global energy management strategy and the role analytics and people play in the implementation. Prayon is a world leader in the manufacture of phosphate and fluorine products for food applications, industrial applications, fertilizers and other applications.
Despite current oil prices, minimizing energy costs and emissions remains a key challenge for industry. Prayon decided to improve on energy efficiency and fixed a target of 12% reduction within 3 years. In order to reach and sustain this target, an innovative energy management methodology has been deployed. This methodology is based on two principles: advanced data analytics and people. During this presentation, we will describe each step of a successful project: data analytics, workshops, implementation and follow-up.
In modern factories, all key measurements are recorded in historian databases. Using state-of-the-art analytics software technologies on this data source can quickly reveal information with high added value. For instance, combining advanced analytics on data with good process knowledge will quickly highlight cost drivers on energy efficiency. However, to successfully deploy outputs of analytics in daily operations, it is essential to involve key plant staff, in particular process operators. Therefore, the methodology includes a strong human component based on a collaborative approach and regular feedback. A combined fact-based and human approach guarantees sustainable results. Within Prayon, this approach has been rolled out on more than 20 production lines; some examples and results will be shared during this presentation.
