ARC Report Abstract

Overview

New IoT-based approaches for managing utilities and critical infrastructure operations are emerging that provide tangible benefits in real-world applications.  By aggregating data from different sources and applying analytical expertise, end users can create new applications to increase efficiencies and improve performance of water management.

Water Management - Ecolab & Nalco Vision Is for 100 Percent Water Reuse in Plants lowatermgmt.PNGFor example, Ecolab (a global water technology and services provider) and its subsidiary company, Nalco Water, are discovering the value of IIoT-based technologies to provide better water management solutions, reduce costs, and improve sustainability across a range of industrial and infra-structure applications.  This includes leveraging sources of data within their own processes and customer installations to reduce water usage to lower costs for their customers and improve overall water system performance.

As we learned at a session at the 2018 ARC Industry Forum in Orlando, Florida, Nalco has combined the capabilities of its TRASAR water monitoring system with Ecolab’s Water Risk Monetizer application to provide users with valuable insight into the value of water to the organization and, in this manner, provide a path to better water efficiency.

A Sustainable Approach to Water Management

Global demand for fresh water is projected to outpace supply by almost 40 percent by 2030.  Ecolab, a leading global provider of water, hygiene and energy technology solutions, strives to help address this impending water shortage.  Clearly, better solutions are needed to minimize water consumption – not only to increase efficiency and reduce costs, but to help reduce the environmental and social impact of water wastage.
