In May 2015, the Chinese government formally announced its "Made in China 2025" strategy. Since then, this has emerged as a major focus and a daily topic of discussion across the country's entire manufacturing community as well as among officials at all levels of government. Government and industry have also organized numerous seminars and workshops related to implementing smart manufacturing to help the Made in China 2025 strategy succeed. All this activity has significantly increased interest in technologies for smart manufacturing.

Now in its ninth year, the Asian Downstream Week conference and exhibition, which took place in Singapore, October 26-27, is an anchor event of Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). This is the annual regional gathering of power and energy industry professionals, technology suppliers, and government representatives. In parallel with Asian Down-stream Week, other SIEW events taking place at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre this year included the Asia Clean Energy Summit, Gas Asia Summit, and the Singapore Energy Summit.

ARC Advisory Group recently conducted a web-based end user survey (with Confederation of Indian Industry, Pune and International Society of Automation) to gain a new perspective on trends in Smart Manufacturing initiatives in India.

Model Definition
The term "model" may be one of the most overused words in technical (and other) documents. Yet it is not clear that the term has a precise definition or that everyone who uses it means the same thing. Even adding an adjective does not always clear up the ambiguity. However, this ambiguity does not detract from the usefulness that models can play to convey important concepts.

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions have been emerging at a much faster rate than initially forecast. This is related to the digital transformation of industry, business, and society at large. Digital transformation increases the amount of data generated and communicated by several orders of magnitude. One of the sources of data expected to grow significantly is from embedded intelligence; the smart component of connected IoT ecosystems.
