Now in its ninth year, the Asian Downstream Week conference and exhibition, which took place in Singapore, October 26-27, is an anchor event of Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). This is the annual regional gathering of power and energy industry professionals, technology suppliers, and government representatives. In parallel with Asian Down-stream Week, other SIEW events taking place at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre this year included the Asia Clean Energy Summit, Gas Asia Summit, and the Singapore Energy Summit.
The previous Asian Downstream Week conferences that ARC attended had a slant towards business topics such as new refinery/petrochemical projects in the region, M&A opportunities, the oil price outlook, and the impact of shale gas on the petrochemicals industry. We observed that this year's event took a deliberate turn in the direction of digitalization and its potential to improve the operational performance of existing downstream facilities. Hence the conference theme: Achieving Operational Excellence Through Digital Transformation.
The event attracted downstream delegates from all six major Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia (PT Pertamina, PT Kreasindo Resources, Wika-BP); Malaysia (Petronas); Philippines (Petron); Singapore (BP, Chevron, Dow Chemical, Shell Eastern Petroleum, Singapore Petroleum Company, Singapore Refining Company); Thailand (Bangchuk Petroleum, SCG Chemical, Thai Oil); Vietnam (Binh Son Refining & Petrochemical). Companies represented from further afield included HMEL and Reliance Industries (India), and Duqm Refinery, Saudi Aramco, and Takreer (Middle East).
