India and Japan Strike a Strategic Deal

Last week, India’s Prime Minister Modi and Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe formally kicked off a plan to build the 316-mile bullet train line from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. The 750-seat train is scheduled to run from August 2022. The Japanese government has also agreed to fund (as a soft loan) about 80 percent of the $17 billion needed for the project that will become part of Asia's oldest railway network. Financing by Japan also means business farmed out to companies such as Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., Hitachi Ltd. and East Japan Railway Co.

Siemens Gamesa Installs Asia’s Tallest Wind Turbines in Thailand

Wind power group Siemens Gamesa has set a new record in Asia by installing the tallest wind turbines in the continent this year. The turbines are equipped with 153-meter tall towers, and with the 56-meter blades, they reach a total height of 210 meters (230 yards). The project, owned by Thai engineering company Gunkul and being built by developer PowerChina ZhongNan, has total capacity of 67.5 MW; i.e. 33 units of the G114-2.0 and G114-2.1 MW models.
