The 2022 ARC Smart City and Energy Forum is approaching (Feb. 14-17), and once again we will be doing a session on drones. In this session from the 2021 Forum, we examined drone deliveries of vaccines, blood, and other medical treatments and equipment.
The Background:
Atrium Health has begun drone deliveries of medicines and blood. This is not a pilot, this is part of the way they are serving their patients. They are one of the first supply chain organizations in the nation to be using drones as a regular part of the way they fulfill orders. As soon as a patient checks in at an Atrium infusion center, their specific medicine is created at the hospital and flies over to the clinic via drone, creating an on-demand pharmacy for medicine with a short shelf life.
Here Conrad Emmerich, their Chief Supply Chain Officer, talks about their journey, their challenges, and the next steps.
