There's plenty to do before ARC's annual forum in Orlando rolls around in February. For us Boston-based analysts, that's barely halfway through an average new England winter, so we'll be glad of a little warmth by then. But, before that happens I still need to finalize a couple of speakers for my analytics track.
The last forum saw some excellent presentations showcasing different analytics technologies across a range of applications:
- Adam South presented how Kennametal was using real-time analytics to drive a new approach to improving productivity. Most companies try and grow manufacturing productivity by decreasing downtime. That's fine - but Kennametal applied analytics from System Insights to grow productivity by reducing cycle time. You can see Adam's 22 minutes presentation here.
- Hedi Ago presented on the rollout of smart meters at the Orlando Utilities Commission. Using Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management solution enabled many benefits. For example, in the past it would take 24 hours and a truck roll to reconnect a customer after payment was made. With the smart meter solution, it can be done remotely in 12 minutes. In addition, analytics allowed timely identification of potential electricity theft, and dashboards pushed to mobile devices. Hedi's 18 minute presentation on analytics for smart metering is free to watch here.
- Scott Abramson spoke about Duke Energy's use of wind turbines in its renewables portfolio. The challenge was that over 700 turbines were due to come out of warranty. And, as is often the case, although the company had lots of data on the performance of these assets, it had very little insight. Using a solution from Genpact that incorporated predictive analytics, the company was able to get visibility into likely maintenance costs and turbine performance as the assets aged. You can see Scott's full 17 minute presentation here.
Excellent though these presentations were, I'm hoping we can top them in 2016. If you think you have a case study that can raise the bar at the ARC Forum, drop me a note or post a comment and I'll be in touch.
