The FieldComm Group, an organization formed through the combining of the Fieldbus Foundation and HART Communication Foundation, celebrates a successful start to becoming the single industry foundation dedicated to meeting the needs of intelligent device communications in the world of process automation. Exhibiting at ACHEMA 2015, Frankfurt, Germany, the FieldComm Group makes its inaugural appearance as the newly established organization and demonstrates how it is 'connecting the world of process automation' through its portfolio of technology solutions.
The FieldComm Group has a clear focus – to develop, manage and promote global standards for integrating digital devices into automation system architectures while protecting process automation investments in HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus communication technologies. Also, as the future 'home' of the integration standard FDI, from July 2015, the FieldComm Group will take over the responsibility of promoting FDI technology from FDI Cooperation LLC, after its dissolution. Ongoing cooperation with the other founding members, FDT Group, OPC Foundation and PROFIBUS & PROFINET International through dedicated Working Groups will ensure the harmonization, development, and maintenance of the FDI specifications, tools, and processes for the HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and PROFIBUS protocols.
To complete the integration of the two organizations, FieldComm Group will relocate to a single location in Austin, Texas, by end June 2015. This purpose-designed facility for the Group's combined resources will centralize the administrative function and enable improvements in the quality, consistency, and efficiency of processes across its technologies. A comprehensive program of integrating the processes, procedures, intellectual property portfolio, assets, and resources of the two organizations ensures an optimal transition to a fully unified and collaborative body – bringing many strategic advantages to end users, members, and the process industry as a whole.
With its membership of over 350 suppliers to the global process automation industry, the benefits of a single organization and single strategy for the advancement of intelligent device communication will be realized across the industry. The FieldComm Group Board of Directors comprises senior executives from ABB, Azbil Corporation, Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, Fuji Electric, Honeywell Process Solutions, Pepperl+Fuchs, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, Siemens, and Yokogawa Electric Corporation, who together lead the Group's strategic direction. Hans-Georg Kumpfmüller, CEO of Sensors and Communication at Siemens and Chairman of FDI Cooperation, LLC, is the elected inaugural Chairman of the Board.
