On May 16th and 17th 2017, ARC Advisory Group will host its European Industry Forum (EIF) in the Meliã Hotel Sitges in Spain. The European Industry Forum is part of ARC’s successful series of worldwide conferences in the USA, India, China, and Japan.
Georg Kroiss of Austrian network specialist TTTech and OPC Foundation President Thomas Burke will present the advantages of the time-sensitive network TSN integrated into the open standard OPC UA to create an unified data highway for IIoT applications.
OPC UA TSN
Ethernet has proven itself as an incredibly successful method of communication due to its openness, easy accessibility and wide range of bandwidth and physical layer options. Yet, due to the lack of determinism of Ethernet, several non-standard modifications have been used in industrial systems where guaranteed communication is a critical requirement.
Now the IEEE standardization of TSN offers up a solution that covers a wide range of applications and provide the open connectivity envisioned in the Internet of Things (IoT). The commercial impact of TSN is likely to be very positive. As more companies adopt TSN, they will increasingly benefit from more competitive pricing, a wider pool of engineering resources and access to greater innovation. The unification of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) communications via standards such as TSN and OPC UA will help to achieve the goals of Industry 4.0 and drive growth.
