OMRON Releases Compact Safety Light Curtain to Increase Productivity for Global Production Lines
OMRON Corporation announced the release in October of its new F3SG-R safety light curtain featuring a robust housing structure, safety functions for higher productivity, and reduced maintenance downtime.
The housing structure of the F3SG-R is significantly improved to enhance resistance against shock and vibration and to reduce the cross-section of the housing to approximately 60 percent of that of the previous model by reducing the housing material thickness from 3 mm to 2.5 mm.
The F3SG-R provides new functions to log the muting status, to assist adjustment with visualized setting conditions, and to connect using Smartclick connectors, greatly reducing adjustment time required for installation compared to the previous model. These functions prevent malfunctions caused by contact with a product or tool and unintended machine stops due to faulty installation or adjustment.
Troubleshooting in eight languages will be published on the website to support global production. Operators across the world can check the causes and solutions of errors that occur during operation in their local languages and quickly troubleshoot, which will help them minimize downtime of their machines.
All models of the F3SG-R conform as standard to the Chinese standard GB 4584 for the first time in the industry. This allows the F3SG-R to be used for safety measures at production lines and to contribute to efficient installation of machines at production sites in China.
Moreover, the production of the F3SG-R will start in 2015 at four factories in Japan, China, United States, and Europe to make the F3SG-R easy to purchase and to reduce delivery times. OMRON supports implementation of safety measures for production sites worldwide.
OMRON Releases New Programmable Terminal NA Series Using ICT
OMRON Corporation announced the November release of its new NA series programmable terminal, which helps improve capacity utilization of machines by displaying multimedia and sharing information via mobile devices. The NA-series programmable terminal is the interface between operator and machine in the Sysmac automation platform.
To improve productivity by increasing capacity utilization, all workers are required to share data on each device incorporated in machines in real time and solve various problems quickly. The NA series provides the system to display real-time device data on remote tablets and PCs through Ethernet or Wi-Fi in addition to on its own screen. This allows both machine operators and authorized people inside and outside the factory to access the same information instantly. Fast troubleshooting and improvement will increase productivity.
Powerful graphics and multimedia function provide operators with how to perform troubleshooting procedures in an understandable way by showing documents including PDFs and playing video files in the latest format. Accurate troubleshooting will minimize machine downtime.
OMRON Releases New NJ Series Machine Automation Controller with built-in SECS/GEM
OMRON Corporation announced the September release of its new NJ series NJ501 SECS/GEM CPU Unit NJ501-1340 and associated software, SECS/GEM Configurator WS02-GCTL1.
The semiconductor, FPD, LED and solar panel manufacturing industries are demanding the development of equipment using industry standard SECS/GEM communications. When a Controller for machine control, such as a PLC, is connected with the host computer to perform SECS/GEM communications, the hardware design is complicated as a separate computer or special communication unit/software is required. This results in higher equipment development costs and long lead times.
The new NJ501-1340 CPU unit integrates both machine control and communication functionality, meaning the NJ controller can be directly connected with the existing host to establish SECS/GEM communications, eliminating the need of a separate computer or special communications unit. Unlike previous CPU units, the NJ series uses variables for programming and is free from complicated address setting and management, and in addition the SECS/GEM Configurator helps perform SECS/GEM communications quicker and easier. This means a significant reduction in the time required for setting SECS/GEM communications by more than 60% compared to the previous method.
Image Sensing Components to Recognize a Person's Condition and Send to Smart Phone
OMRON Corporation will release a new series of products called "Human Vision Components - Consumer model" ("HVC-C") in December 2014. This series of products integrates OMRON's proprietary face image sensing technology, "OKAO Vision", and a camera module into a single, compact unit that can send sensing results to smartphones or tablets over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth so that this information can be easily accessed by apps on those devices.
HVC-C is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and can sense 10 different characteristics of someone's condition or movement, such as facial expression, gender, age, line of sight and gestures. The HVC-C series of sensors can be fitted to all kinds of equipment and devices to be the "eyes" of the Internet of Things (IoT), working towards creating a new sensing network environment that can be an integral part of our daily life.
OMRON will make HVC-C application development information openly available from its website and will also actively provide this information to hackathons and ideathons, so that application developers around the world can create new ways to use the HVC-C and promote open innovation for the IoT.
OMRON released HVC to corporations in March 2014 for supply as an integral part of residential electrical appliances and other products. With the release of HVC-C, they want a wide range of application developers and general consumers to directly use this new technology to create new value and opportunities matched to their individual lifestyles through small office appliances and components and personal use devices.
