At this year's Hanover Fair, 6,500 exhibitors presented their industrial products and solutions. With 220,000 visitors, attendance was at about the same level as 2013 – the last year in which the show's scope was com-parable. Yet with nearly a third of all visitors coming from outside Germany, the share of foreign attendees was much larger than in previous years. One reason for this is the keen interest in finding out how German industrial companies are dealing with Industrie 4.0.
Overall, the mood at this year's Hanover Fair was more positive and upbeat than in recent years. This is due in part to the growth and export spurt the Germany economy is currently enjoying thanks to the weakened euro, low oil prices, strong demand from China and US in 2014 and early 2015, and the current stability of economies in general.
Industrie 4.0
Once again, Industrie 4.0 was the dominant theme at this year's Hanover Fair, but with several new and different perspectives. While the topic is still part hype, many companies are offering more concrete solutions and can show how their products tie into and support truly connected production systems. Most technology providers are surfing on the Industrie 4.0 hype wave, but contributing little to creating value-adding solutions. For many equipment providers, "Industrie 4.0 readiness" sometimes just means putting an Ethernet port on their equipment.
