A data-driven AI suite focused on planning, prediction, and prevention to help enhance grid resilience and extend asset life.

Hitachi Energy, a global provider in electrification, announced the launch of HMAX Energy, an AI-powered suite of services and solutions designed to help safeguard critical energy infrastructure while enabling operational efficiency. Delivered through customer partnerships, HMAX Energy helps to optimize planning, prediction, and prevention to strengthen energy security and resilience.

Data-driven services and solutions help to increase operational efficiency, strengthen grid reliability, and extend asset life across the energy value chain, including utilities, renewables, industries, and data centers. HMAX Energy leverages reference cases demonstrating the potential to help reduce revenue loss from equipment breakdowns by up to 60 percent through rapid emergency response and failure prevention.

The electrification of many industries and the rise of new power-intensive sectors are accelerating the need to expand and modernize the power grid. In most countries, much of the grid infrastructure has already exceeded its expected lifetime and was not designed to meet current demands. The sector also faces supply chain constraints for grid equipment. As a result, increasing the availability and extending the lifetime of existing assets has become more critical, helping to reinforce the role of partnerships.

To meet these demands, Hitachi Energy launched HMAX Energy as part of its broader HMAX portfolio of AI solutions for social infrastructure. HMAX by Hitachi spans Energy, Mobility, and Industry, aligned with its Lumada 3.0 strategy.

HMAX Energy Plan, Predict, and Prevent framework for AI-driven asset performance and reliability

HMAX Energy combines domain expertise and AI capabilities across the value chain, covering primary energy infrastructure equipment, such as switchgear and transformers, as well as substations, HVDC systems, and power quality solutions. Designed to be flexible across customer technology choices, the offering is structured across three pillars:

  • Plan: Optimizing asset lifecycle and operational efficiency through AI-driven insights to help support decision-making and planning.

  • Predict: Detecting issues earlier through asset monitoring and analysis of connected and environmental data.

  • Prevent: Enabling proactive action through health checks, performance models, and field support to help extend asset life.

HMAX Energy builds on reference cases demonstrating that rapid emergency response and failure prevention can help to reduce revenue loss from equipment breakdowns by up to 60 percent. Early detection capabilities can also help to reduce transformer failures by 50 percent and repair costs by up to 75 percent, supporting improved operational efficiency and grid availability.

From infrastructure design and construction to operations and service, HMAX Energy incorporates technologies already deployed in the field. One example includes the use of digital twins such as IdentiQ® for HVDC systems, which can help to reduce incident response times by up to 90 percent.

Baltic Cable, one of the longest subsea HVDC links, has implemented a digital twin data platform for its HVDC system. The platform integrates asset information, analytics, and operational data into a real-time visual interface, providing visibility into system status, lifecycle, performance, and potential future conditions.

ERG, a renewable power operator in Italy, has digitalized hybrid switchgear by monitoring operational parameters on-site, improving asset availability and overall performance. The monitoring solution gathers and analyzes performance data through Hitachi Energy’s Collaboration Center in Lodi, enabling condition monitoring and a proactive maintenance approach, resulting in a 35 percent reduction in time spent on site inspection activities.
