ARC’s European Industry Forum is part of our successful series of worldwide conferences in Europe, America and Asia. The next European Forum will be held in Sitges (Barcelona), Spain on May 4-6, 2026 and focus on “Achieving Resilient Operations through AI, Digitalization, and Sustainability”. Participants are invited to attend exclusive presentations and workshops on strategies and case studies from the digital front lines.

Impulse: EC4P as the Backbone of Audi’s Software Defined Production Strategy
Audi’s EC4P initiative shows what it takes to bring software-defined automation to the shop floor - at real scale and in real factories. In this ARC Impulse Audi shares how EC4P is helping to standardize shop-floor control through a more virtualized platform approach, without sacrificing the non-negotiables of industrial operations: deterministic behavior, high reliability, and built-in resilience.

Beyond harmonizing control architectures, EC4P also lays the groundwork for what comes next. By creating a consistent, modern platform layer closer to production, Audi is positioning industrial AI workloads to move nearer to where data are generated and decisions must be executed. Thomas closes with a look ahead at Audi’s roadmap, pointing toward deeper virtualization and, ultimately, AI-driven optimization that can continuously improve performance while keeping operations stable and predictable.

This Impulse is presented by Dr. Thomas Kampa, IT Solution Architect at Audi, who holds a PhD in deterministic communication networks. He plays a key role in the Edge Cloud for Production (EC4P) program, designing and validating cloud-native, deterministic architectures for software-defined manufacturing and acting as technical lead during cross plant rollouts across Audi’s production sites.
