How IIoT (Smart Manufacturing) will impact Operations Management (MES)

Happy New Year to all!

At the end of December 2015, I recorded an "ARC Webwindow" sharing  my understanding on how Industrie 4.0, Industrial IoT or Smart Manufacturing starts impacting, and will impact Operations Management (also MOM or MES) in the future.

I start explaining how I see the components of Smart Manufacturing and how Industrie 4.0 and Industrial IoT fit in that picture.

Then I cover short term changes that we observe in three main industry clusters: process industries, discrete industries and hybrid industries.  Some industries have already impressive implementations in place that can serve as models for others. For example: PackML implementations can serve as model for modular production automation, or Plug & Produce, in the life sciences industries.  There are great examples of operational intelligence in the cloud, waiting to be applied elsewhere.  there are simple ways to add analytics applications in the cloud can be bolted on top of existing operations management applications.

I round off with my expectations of long term changes, based on requirements for operations management from Smart Manufacturing, discussions with industry and emerging technologies I am aware of.

Your reactions and feedback are very welcome!

We'll continue the discussions at our Worldwide and European Industry Forums 2016. Join us there!
