ARC Report Abstract

NAMUR China held its sixth annual conference November 19 and 20, 2014 in Shanghai. The conference, sponsored by Siemens, drew about 200 participants (up from 150 last year) from NAMUR China member companies such as BASF-YPC, Bayer Technology and Engineering (Shanghai) Company, and Evonik Degussa Specialty Chemicals (Shanghai) Company. NAMUR invited ARC Advisory Group to attend the conference, which is becoming increasingly important for the process automation community in China.

Mr. Dai Xiaolong, head of NAMUR China's core team, opened the conference with highlights relating to the China organization. Following this, Dr. Thomas Steckenreiter, Member of the NAMUR Board of Management, shared news from NAMUR Headquarters.

Siemens' motto for this conference, "Integrated Engineering," appeared to be well received by NAMUR China member companies, many of which are looking to embrace this future-oriented approach. The company's presentations largely focused on the role of automation in the Industrie 4.0 manufacturing competitiveness initiative, which started in Germany, but is now rapidly gaining traction across Europe and in other regions along with related Industrial Internet of Things concepts.

Presentations by NAMUR China member companies shared best practices on a variety of timely and relevant process automation-related topics. Participants listened to speakers from diverse organizations. A presenter from Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT), for example, spoke about technologies and solutions related to the Industrial Internet of Things, a new topic for the NAMUR China Conference.
