Project Success Story

Project Scope:  The client wanted to automate pick and place of packing material with emphasis on worker safety and hygiene.  Besides, the client wanted to introduce additional safety measures to avoid accidents CoBot Material Handlingdue to human intervention.  After assessing the available vendors in this space, LTTS (L&T Technology Services) was selected.

LTTS’ Approach and Solution:  LTTS compared and evaluated different CoBots on parameters, such as payload, reach, and safety.  A different gripper concept was developed to pick and place cups/lids stack from crate, and place it on to the machine infeed.  The solution was simulated to determine maximum reach and work envelop.  Solution highlights:

  • Designed and incorporated a vision system to position the gripper at the right location to grip and  release material
  • Added sensors at various stations to detect material that will help the CoBot to decide on the path and sequence of operation in advance
  • Used safety scanners to define safety interlocks in case of intrusion

  • A CoBot that can pick and place the material with 99.99 percent accuracy
  • 80 percent reduction in material handling accidents by sending proactive alert and notification for human assistance whenever necessary
