Client’s Project: A greenfield snacks facility had to be set up during the pandemic. This was a tough call as the project had to be executed with COVID-19 protocols in compliance with several central and state government guidelines. LTTS (L&T Technology Services) with its impeccable track record in engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) projects was selected to work on this greenfield facility.
The plot area is 29.1 acres (built up area: 100, 000 square meters) and the project is being executed in 2 phases where each phase covers one snack processing line. The construction management phase is about 97 man months in Phase – 1; and 75 man months in Phase - 2 (due to overlap on execution between the phases).
Scope of Project: The overall scope in both the phases included:
The greenfield project included the following facilities and infrastructure:
Business Value: Setting up a greenfield facility during the pandemic required tremendous effort and collaboration with government bodies to ensure adherence to rules and regulations. Considering the social distancing requirement, design changes were implemented at a later stage of the project. These changes include separate pathways for entry and exit for production area, installation of thermal scanners etc. LTTS shouldered complete EPCM responsibility with proactive approach in resolving roadblocks and providing thrust to execution. Prior to execution, methodologies were developed involving all critical areas and onboarding respective stakeholders (civil, PEB, OEM, other contractors etc.). The master plan development was carried out taking into account multiple production lines coming in phases and modular expansion of utilities and other infrastructure buildings.
