In a June 2015 Report to Congress, the US Department of Energy (DOE) stated that while steady progress has been made in the industrial sector to improve energy efficiency, there is room for improvement. According to the report, "There is potential to accelerate the rate of adopting energy efficient technologies and practices that could reduce energy consumption in the industrial sector by an additional 15 to 32 percent by 2025". The report suggests that adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices has the potential to reduce consumption in the sector by an additional 15 to 32 percent by 2025.

Potential to Do More
According to the report, in the US the industrial sector accounted for 32 percent of total energy consumption in 2012. This share is projected to increase to more than 36 percent by 2025. The report acknowledged that the industrial sector has made huge strides in improving energy efficiency, but suggests the potential exists to further reduce energy consumption in the sector by an additional 15 to 32 percent by 2025 through accelerated adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices.
