Attendees engaged in discussions about the future of industrial digitalization, sustainability, and connectivity, reinforcing the organization’s role as a driving force in shaping global automation standards.

Insights into the Sessions of NAMUR General Meeting 2024

The NAMUR General Meeting 2024 featured a dynamic two-day program focused on advancements in process automation. Day 1 began with opening remarks by Felix Hanisch (Bayer CropScience), Gunther Kegel (ZVEI), and René Neijts (DOW). Emerson, the event sponsor, introduced the theme "Boundless Automation for Ecosystems in Action" in a presentation by Roel van Doren and Peter Zornio, emphasizing innovation and collaboration. Key sessions included BASF’s talk on cybersecurity as a foundation for future automation, BASF and Lanxess’s discussion on the "evergreening process" in automation systems, and a case study by Evonik on how intelligent field devices enhance plant availability.

Day 2 highlighted excellence and the future of automation. The NAMUR Award was presented, accompanied by a brief address from the winners. The program followed with a session on Process-X as the foundation for networked energy management of the future, offering insights into sustainable energy practices through data sharing, and case studies by Covestro and BASF, showcasing artificial intelligence’s role in enabling autonomous operations.

The meeting provided a platform for industry leaders to share ideas, explore innovations, and address critical challenges, reinforcing NAMUR’s role in driving progress in industrial automation.

During the event, it was announced that Tobias Schlichtmann, Senior Vice President, Technical Expertise from BASF will succeed Felix Hanisch as the new Chairman of the NAMUR Board. Hanisch has served as Chairman since 2017, and Schlichtmann will take over the role, continuing NAMUR’s leadership in advancing process automation.
