ABB, a global technology leader in electrification and automation, announced its intent to propose a 100 percent spin-off of its Robotics division at its Annual General Meeting in Q2 2026. The ABB board believes that listing ABB Robotics as a separate company will enhance both entities’ ability to create customer value, drive growth, attract talent, and enable more focused governance and capital allocation, given the limited business and technology synergies between the Robotics business and ABB’s other divisions due to differing demand and market dynamics.

The ABB Robotics division has approximately 7,000 employees. With 2024 revenues of $2.3 billion it represented about 7 percent of ABB Group revenues. More than 80 percent of the company’s robotics portfolio—including Autonomous Mobile Robots—is enabled by software and AI.

As of Q2 2026, the ABB Machine Automation division, currently part of the Robotics & Discrete Automation business area that includes ABB Robotics, will become a part of the Process Automation business area. The Machine Automation business operates in the high-end segment for solutions based on PLCs, IPCs, servo motion, industrial transport systems, vision, and software.
