Having just returned from an interesting, informative and chock full thought leadership invitation only Oil & Gas Leadership Summit down in Houston it is clear that the oil & gas industry is now more than ever open to considering new ideas, new technologies and solutions and, most importantly, working with strong technology partners to realize operational excellence and thrive in challenging times. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Tata Consultancy Services (
TCS) for organizing this great event and giving me the opportunity to participate as a speaker, panelist and audience member.
There were several great presentations given that highlighted how owner-operators, E&P firms and related stakeholders can leverage technologies such as analytics, robotics and AI, mobility and IIoT to achieve operational excellence without compromise by improving asset reliability, optimizing well and field performance, optimizing artificial lift, reducing NPT, increasing production, and, most importantly, saving over 100 man days on just one gas processing project alone.
An executive from Nabors Corporate Services gave a great presentation on how they successfully leverage services and solutions from TCS to enhance their standardized rig offerings; enhance integration of rig services including MPD; develop specific automation services; develop RigCloud Infrastructure to help address challenges of interoperability – particularly in land drilling segment; leverage integrated HMI; modular development of rig control systems; and, enhancing test & training services via drilling simulators and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
TCS was showing three impressive technology solutions including ignio - a cognitive platform for enterprise IT Operations, Digital Pipeline Surveillance – a safe & terrain independent solution that will help clients with round the clock surveillance of enterprise assets and replaces the traditional aerial reconnaissance which relies on human’s ability for locating irregularities, and a changing workforce solution that relies on social media to help manage challenges of the “Great Crew Change”.
ARC will be developing a more comprehensive report on the key takeaways from this thought provoking event in the coming weeks so keep your eyes out for more information on how IIoT and analytics (along with working with strong technology partners such as TCS) can enable oil & gas companies to not only thrive in challenging times but also achieve operational excellence.
