Having just returned from spending a week at the
Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia in Houston it was clear that there was an increasing trend towards leveraging IIoT enabled solutions for condition monitoring, turbomachinery (i.e. pumps, compressors, turbines) optimization, and other operational aspects. Although a much smaller show than OTC, registered attendance was ~4,000 (although there were thousands of additional free pass attendees), the Symposia offered a plethora of informative and interesting short courses, tutorial sessions, lectures, and discussion groups on pumps, compressors and turbines.
Among the over 300 exhibitors included companies such as GE Oil & Gas and Lufkin, Siemens Energy, Dresser-Rand, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Compressor Corporation, BASF, Cameron, Compressor Controls Corp. (CCC), Flowserve, Hitachi America, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ingersoll Rand, ITT Corp., Kongsberg, National Instruments, NOV, Schneider Electric, SPX Flow Technology, SKF, Sulzer, Sundyne, Voith Turbo, and Woodward, among many others. In walking the show floor and chatting with attendees and exhibitors alike, we learned a great deal on compressor and turbine controls – areas in which ARC is conducting new research investigations – and how IIoT enabled solutions can play a major role in enhancing operational efficiencies, ensure greater asset utilization and extending asset life as part of an overall lifecycle management strategy.
ARC is conducting new research in the coming weeks and months investigating compressor and turbine controls and optimization solutions and welcome the opportunity to speak with suppliers and end users on what are some of their noteworthy challenges and potential solutions.
