For anyone who's new to our IIoT blog - or to my analytics thread in particular - here's a quick recap of my 5 most read posts of 2015. Just in case you really have nothing better to do between Christmas and New Year...
- Google’s insane pricing model for Industrial IoT analytics. To be completely open, I had a bit of a chat with a couple of Googler's after I posted this one. As a result, I have softened my position a tad. Don't get me wrong, I still think transparency and predictability in pricing are close to sacrosanct. But, as the nice chaps at Google politely pointed out, as the cost of compute gets closer to dirt cheap, then transparency and predictability become somewhat less important. Hard to argue with that.
- Prescriptive analytics and Industrial IoT: Growing up together. Prescriptive analytics is a form of analytics that can help bring context and sense to the volume, velocity and variety of data that will be generated by IIoT. Many of the early examples are in revolutionizing the approach to asset maintenance.
- Let’s play Clue: Who really killed EMC? The title says it all really - but it wasn't the usual suspect...
- Should industrial IoT apps vendors build their own cloud? In a word, no. It's pretty common when new technologies evolve that many vendors rush to build solutions. Only to realize later that perhaps that wasn't the most sensible thing to do...A handful of companies are going to be world class at delivering secure, scalable, cost effective cloud solutions. Great. Use that as a commodity service and add the things that really differentiate your company and products.
- Entrepreneurs start your engines…The Industrial IoT analytics platform race is on! I'm a bit embarrassed that this one managed to creep onto the top 5 list actually. If only because it refers to a 2015 project that we're still not quite ready to publish. If you wouldn't mind, I'd much rather you read this project update instead please.
Still bored..? OK, here's
every post I've written in 2015.
